  1. Phil Abrahams, owner of the English company Talisman Crossbows, speak about his latest creation : the Talisman Mantis.

Just a couple of works about Talisman Crossbows:

Talisman is an English company located a few miles south of Bristol in western England.

The company, since its inception, always distinguished itself for the very personal style of its creations.

Talisman crossbows are custom handmade crossbows built using high tech materials.

The Talisman Mantis is the latest design from Phil Abrahams and it is both traditional (you can really tell it is a Talisman) as well as revolutionary.

It is traditional in the sense that looking at it you get a sort of family feeling with other Talisman crossbows: the shapes, lines and design as well as the finish with lots of exposed and contrast color metal (aluminum and brass) are all there.

It is revolutionary because this time Mr. Abrahams got inspired with some high tech military tool for use by special operation teams (such as the British SAS), therefore it possess a unique set of features.

First off the bow can be mounted and shot in two different positions: horizontal just like any other crossbow and vertical (like a traditional bow) in order to allow shooter to use it in confined spaces.

The crossbow also uses a unique patented technology called Energy Wave Bow System. This system uses aerodynamically shaped metal limbs that do not flex, instead they are loaded by mechanical spring system that makes use of a special spring that provides over two tons of power. The result is an astonishing arrow speed. Crossbow poundage can also be set at 140 or 240 pounds, the Mantis also features an adjustable trigger.

The pics you see here are from the very first prototype as Talisman is working on the finalizing the design as well as the specs.

    THE TALISMAN BEAST CROSSBOW

A brand-new invention inspired by medieval descent.

The journey has been a very long and hard one, but it has led to

a highly innovative and exciting brand new development in modern

    crossbow technology.

The only crossbow of its kind in the world today, an elaborate highly

complex mechanical design that is extremely powerful and also incredibly accurate at short and long distances, while being ultra silent.

At the heart of this meticulously hand crafted weapon is a helically

sprung power plant storing one and a half tons of energy. This energy

is converted to high power and velocity through precise gearing ratios.

The shoulder stock on this model is also detachable.

  5. Ils savaient déja faire des filetages en 1580 :28:

    A rare all-metal magnificent crossbow,

German (Nuremberg), circa 1580. Gold plated prod with etched decoration of leaping hares and hounds amid leafy vines. Two-piece iron tiller. The front part has fine gold inlaid arabesque decoration. The rear half is octagonal with chiselled and gilded ornamentation and inlayed dots of silver. The end plate bears an engraved coat of arms. There is a lightly engraved belt hook on the under side. Extremely rare self-cocking mechanism. The quarrel channel and the lock are set on a threaded bar, and move back and forth as the grip piece is turned. In this way, the bowstring can be caught in the nut and the prod spanned. The underside of the quarrel channel shows an old inventory number. Length 24.5 cm.

Extremely rare type of crossbow, which possesses great strength in spite of its dimensions. This weapon, also called a balestrino, was especially favored in Italy during the 16th and 17th centuries. In many European cities, draconian measures were taken to prohibit it shortly after it arrived, as it could be easily concealed beneath clothing, and it was a silent, deadly weapon frequently used for secret assassination.
