sixoyob
Hey everyone, I'm kicking off my first traditional bow-making project and I need to find good places to buy the right wood such as ash, yew, or elm. If you know any reliable suppliers in France or Europe, I'd love to hear about them! My day job involves cybersecurity and I'm in the middle of CISSP Training so my free time is tight. That's why I'm hoping for some pointers to help me start off well with top-notch materials. I want to find raw or pre-cut wood that's dried and doesn't break the bank. Thanks in advance to anyone who chimes in. This forum has been a goldmine for newbies like me! Take care, hemo

You might want to follow Tim Baker's advice: Tim Baker's "Your First Wooden Bow" (Reposted With Tim's Permission) - PaleoPlanet Ash boards in 27 or 34 mm thickness may be available, for example, from building materials suppliers such as those in the Gédimat/Gédibois group, sometimes under the name "frêne olivier." Choose a 27 or 34 mm thick, quarter-sawn, or bias-ringed board, carefully selected according to Baker's advice. Be careful though with the price per cubic meter of wood which can vary from €900 (okay) to €1900 (abusive) depending on the store.
